The mountain town of Truckee is located on the main I-80 route to the north of the Lake Tahoe ski resorts and towns. Truckee is a popular year-round base for exploring the Sierra Nevada range and, in the winter months, it is a centre for those who are looking to explore the ski areas near the northern end of Lake Tahoe.
Truckee has a number of smaller ski resorts within a short drive but can also boast good access to some of the better-known areas, such as Palisades Tahoe and Northstar.
