Those looking for a ski experience that is a little different in Utah might like to take the 45-minute drive north to Ogden. Here the skiing is less hectic, less crowded and with fewer of the bells and whistles that the luxury areas closer to Salt Lake City provide.

Nordic Valley Ski Resort
Although Snowbasin might be closer to Ogden as the crow flies, the smaller ski resort at Nordic Valley is a little quicker to reach by road. Having said that, the ski area here still offers five lifts which serve a total of 500 acres of skiable terrain. There are 40 runs, with a recent expansion having increased the number of black and double black diamond ski trails.

Snowbasin Resort
Snowbasin Resort is just 30 minutes away from downtown Ogden. It is one of the older ski resorts in North America and a former host to the Winter Olympic Games. The skiing has 12 lifts, including two gondolas and a cable car, which serve a total of 111 marked trails. The skiable terrain is around 3000 acres with just over 3000 feet of vertical.

Powder Mountain
Powder Mountain proudly markets itself as the ‘largest ski resort in the USA’, although there are some qualifications necessary with that statistic. The skiable area served by the nine lifts is just over 2800 acres, while the total skiable terrain (accessed by sno-cat or with a guide) is an impressive 8500 acres. The ski resort has a lift-served vertical of 2205 feet.

Beaver Mountain
Beaver Mountain is a smaller ski area located up near the border with Idaho. Opened in 1939, the family-owned ski resort offers just over 800 acres of skiable terrain served by four chairlifts and two surface lifts. The vertical drop is 1700 feet and there are 48 runs, with the majority being at the beginner or intermediate skier level.

Skiers near Ogden who want to travel south through the Salt Lake City area will find the more famous ski resorts in the Wasatch ranges are around the same driving time as Beaver Mountain.
