Ski-in ski-out resort in Austria
Hochgurgl is one of the highest ski resorts in Austria. The hamlet is located 2150 metres above sea level just before the winter road closure of the Timmelsjoch pass into Italy in the Ötz valley.
It is part of the Obergurgl ski area and is linked to the small settlement at the entrance to the village on the valley floor by both ski run and ski lift. The skiing is also linked to the main Obergurgl ski area on the Festkogel by a cable car across the Königstal.
Apart from the valley run, almost all of the skiing at Hochgurgl is above the tree-line.

What makes Hochgurgl a real ski-in ski-out location?
The ski runs of the separate Hochgurgl ski area start from all sides of the resort accommodation, with the run from the village down to the valley floor offering a fine warm-up of 900 metres descent. The gondola lift back up from the valley links to a second stage which takes skiers up towards the higher group of lifts which cover the runs under the Schermerspitze and Wurmkogl peaks.
The top chairlift underneath the Wurmkogl reaches a height of more than 300o metres and offers spectacular views into Italy.
The base of this group of lifts is also where the Topexpress Gurgl cable car links into the skiing above Obergurgl.
Over to the left of Hochgurgl (looking up the mountain) the Kirchenkar gondola rises in two stages from the Timmelsjoch toll station (where the road is closed in the winter).
