The area around Wisconsin Dells is best-known for its summer attractions and water parks, which means that there is plenty of accommodation available to serve as a base for ski resorts near the city. There are a number of small ski areas within a relatively easy drive from Wisconsin Dells, but the list of ski resorts also includes a couple of the biggest ski areas in the state.

Christmas Mountain Ski Resort
Christmas Mountain is the closest ski area to Wisconsin Dells. The ski resort is part of a year-round timeshare property which also offers a championship golf course in summer. Skiing is limited and mostly suitable for beginners. A chairlift and a rope tow serve a vertical of 250 feet. The ski resort has 16 runs and a terrain park.

Cascade Mountain
Cascade Mountain is one of the most popular ski resorts in Wisconsin. It is easily accessible from Wisconsin Dells and Madison just off I-90 near the town of Portage and offers a good range of ski trails of all difficulties as well as terrain parks and snow tubing. The resort has a vertical drop of 450 feet over 175 skiable acres.

Devil’s Head Ski Resort
The skiing at Devil’s Head is part of another combined golf and ski resort. The ski area includes 30 trails and a vertical drop of 500 feet looking out over the Lake Wisconsin section of the Wisconsin River. There are eight ski lifts, including six quad chairlifts, and the skiing covers a sizeable 300 acres of terrain.

Tyrol Basin Ski Resort
The skiing at Tyrol Basin is located just outside of Madison and is a popular destination for skiers and boarders in the Wisconsin Dells – Madison area. The ski resort has no less than five terrain parks in addition to snow tubing and 22 different ski runs. The 260-foot vertical is served by a total of six lifts.

Whitetail Ridge Ski Area
Whitetail Ridge is a military recreation area on Fort McCoy which is also open to the public. The ski runs are served by a T-bar tow and cover a vertical of 185 feet. There is also a terrain park and five snow tubing runs on an 800 foot drop. The skiing is open Friday through Sunday.

Nordic Mountain
Nordic Mountain is a small ski area near Wild Rose in central Wisconsin with six lifts, including two chairlifts. The skiing is open on weekday evenings and all day from Friday to Sunday. The ski area has 60 acres of skiable terrain and a vertical drop of 265 feet. There is a separate beginners’ area and a snow tubing run.
