Austria has announced the closure of its ski areas for the month of November as part of a wide-ranging programme of restrictions to combat the spread of the coronavirus. The use of cable cars, gondolas and other uphill transport for tourist reasons will not be allowed from Tuesday, 03 November.
This means that those ski areas which had opened will have to close down and those who had openings planned during the month will be forced to delay them.
Stays for tourist purposes in Austrian hotels and other accommodation will not also be allowed during the month, said government ministers during a press conference on Saturday, 31 October. The measures mean that ski vacations to Austria will not be possible until the beginning of December at the earliest.
Individual winter sports, such as ski touring, winter walking in household groups and snowshoeing will still be allowed during this period.
